Madagascar
Carnivore Ecology

Picture
OBJECTIVE

To understand the unique ecology of Madagascar’s Eupleridae carnivores. This work is multi-dimensional covering aspects of behavioral, population, and community ecology, as well as biodiversity conservation.
Main Collaborators
Dr. Zach Farris  (App. State. Univ.)

PROJECTS

Influence of Forest edge and Invasive Predators
Picture
Mantadia National Park
Objective: We aimed to assess the influence of hard forest edge and invasive predators on the spatial use of euplerids. Through this work we aim to better understand the separate and combined influence of these major pressures on native carnivores to help inform conservation action. In addition this work provides the first large scale survey of Mantadia National Park for euplerids.
Collaborators: Erin Wampole, Brian Gerber, Zach Farris

Diel Activity Patterns
Picture
Objective:  To understand how fosa navigate risky environments by changing their diel activity. Learn More.

Collaborators: Kim Rivera, Brian Gerber, Zach Farris

Abundance of threatened lemur species at Betampona Strict Reserve
Picture
Objective: To estimate lemur abundances using line transect surveys across the entire reserve.

Main Collaborators: Zach Farris and Brian Gerber

Eupleridae Meet the Carnivores

Few people are aware that 8 carnivorans are endemic to Madagascar.  If you want to learn more about our current knowledge of each species check out our recent publication in Mammal Review!
